Nominet Data Quality Verification

What is data quality verification?

As part of a recent change to their policies, Nominet the UK domain name authority has now  made it a requirement for all registrars inform their customers about how to go about validating the registrant's (Your) registration information.

If you have a UK domain name and your registration details are deemed to be incorrect, incomplete or cannot be verified by Nominet's address validation partner, you will receive an email from Nominet and UK Trading requesting you update the information.

A copy of the email that we sent to you can be found in the email history in your account in our Customer Portal.

Important: If the registration details are not corrected then Nominet will suspend any domain that is not validated within 30 days of being asked to do so.

Data validation requires that the following conditions can be satisfied:

  • Data passes the initial data completeness check; and
  • The registrant's name is present on a third party database, or other verification can be supplied, including by the registrar, registrant or other reliable third party source; and
  • The registrant’s address is present on a third party database or other verification can be supplied, including by the registrar, registrant or other reliable third party source

Why is it being done?

Nominet constantly strive to improve and maintain the quality of the data they have for registrants and that they publish in their WHOIS database is a key objective.

They believe it is an important part of ensuring that the UK namespace is a trusted and safe space.

What do you need to do?

If you receive an email asking you to validate your domain's registration details then simply click on the link within the email and follow the on screen instructions to update the information.

Once this information has been updated then there should be no further action required. If the details provided can still not be verified we will contact you again via email.

Please note: If your registrant details cannot be successfully verified, your domain will be suspended by Nominet within 30 days of receiving the verification email.
